PAVE PAWS

In the 1970s, the U.S. Air Force commissioned the National Academies of Science to evaluate whether the signal of the PAVE Phased-Array Warning System (covering the entire United States) could pose a health risk to residents of California and Massachusetts towns in proximity to the RADAR.


This was the result of political action. It was Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts who requested this, as mentioned in the preface of the report*. Also, the offices of Senators T. Kennedy and J. Kerry, and Congressman Delehunt, participated in discussions with the Air Force and the National Research Council*.
